Limp bindings from Tallinn

Through my own publishing company, I publish book on bookbinding and paper. In my work, I aim to use my cultural heritage as inspiration and as a springboard in drawing attention to old techniques, adapting them to modern conditions and materials.

In my series on bookbinding, you become acquainted with the exciting technique “limp bindings”, which was used mostly on volumes for everyday use. This technique has infinite possibilities of variation as regards material, technique and form. As no glue is used, a number of materials can be combined.

In each book, I present a number of examples of this technique from different archives and libraries, and a Gallery where I invite well-known book artists to create their own variants, using the original as a point of departure.
